It has more than 42,000 employees that make up its workforce are committed on a daily basis to offering each customer a unique travel experience. In 2021, the airlines will have transported 45 million passengers worldwide.

The airline is well decorated with prestigious awards, its recent recognition in spite of the pandemic includes:  On October 26, 2022, Air France was certified for the first time as a 5-star airline in the official 2023 APEX airline ratings. Air France was voted the best airline in Western Europe at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2022 ceremony held in London for the second year in a row. On June 8, 2022, at the 2022 APEX Passenger Choice Awards ceremony, Air France won the "Best Entertainment in Europe" award. This award recognizes the quality and diversity of the entertainment offered on its long-haul flights. Every year since their creation in 2009, the "Travel d'Or" awards have recognized French internet users’ favorite brands in the tourism sector. At this 13th edition, Air France was awarded first prize in the "Airlines" category.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced Air France to reduce its flights due to travel restrictions in many countries; the pandemic has had a long-term impact on the air transport sector. The recovery of air transport is therefore expected to be slow and uncertain, with Air France expecting to reach 95% of its pre-pandemic flight offer only in 2023.

On May 17, 1933, four airlines SociétéCentrale pour l’Exploitation de LignesAériennes (founded in 1919), Compagnie Internationale de Navigation (1920), Air Union (1923), and Air Orient (1929)—merged and negotiated with the French government to form a national system. A few months later, on August 30, with the support of the government, the combining company merged with another line, CompagnieGénéraleAéropostale (founded in 1919), to form Air France. It survived World War II, and in June 1948, Air France was incorporated, with 70 percent of the new company owned by the French government. Its first Air France transatlantic flight from Paris to New York City took place on June 25, 1946. Routes expanded in the following decades so that by the early 21st century, the airline was serving more than 200 cities in some 80 countries.

Since then, Air France-KLM has become a major player in international air transport concentrating in its three main businesses: passenger air traffic, cargo air traffic, and aviation maintenance. This is possible through the strength of its hubs at Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam-Schiphol offering a vast international network.

Destination

The merger formed one of the world's largest airline groups. Air France is based at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, with smaller hubs at Paris-Orly, Lyon, and Nice airports. Air France operates an extensive global network, serving broad destinations across the world. As of September 2022, Air France flies to 29 domestic destinations and 201 international destinations in 94 countries across Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. In 2020, Air France operated services that were essential for people, trade, and the economy and repatriated thousands of French and European citizens. In 2021, the group transported 45 million passengers worldwide.

As a group, Air France-KLM offers its customers a network covering more than 310 destinations in 117 different countries through its Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, and Transavia airlines. At Air France-KLM, the group is proud to bring people together, to help their customers discover new places and new cultures, and to secure the sustainability of economic exchanges, thus fulfilling one of humankind's oldest dreams on a daily basis; to travel.
